A million-dollar bet and a quick lesson in long-term investing.

Buffett reports that, over the ten years, the S&P 500 had an average annual gain of 8.5%. How did the elite crew do? Not one of the five fund-of-funds kept up with the market. Taken together, their average annual return was less than 3%. It's as if Buffett's street car had not just won the race, but beaten the NASCAR team by five laps.
