Japanese Real Indigo

I didn't realize the labor of love entailed in dyeing fabric with indigo, or that it was both flame-retardant and antibacterial. It takes a year to prepare the dye and several days to dye the fabric. I found this a particularly interesting little documentary.

This documentary on wasabi is equally poignant. There's a tremendous pride in Japanese artisans that would sound so odd in North American culture.
