I really wondered about this when I visited Disneyland, so I'm glad to see this pretty thorough answer to the question. Careful surveillance including assessing when a species is ready to reproduce, detailed monitoring to help Target specific areas to spray, and even a coop of chickens to test for carrier-state of troublesome viruses.
