Simple idea. Lots of benefits.
However, if the pilot comes in a little fast and goes over the top of the banked turn, that would be a lot worse than going off the end of the runway.
I'm not sure I buy the environmental benefits - a slightly smaller runway with maybe a shorter taxi distance, but not a huge environmental impact.
